How do I redeem a code from the book?
Buyers of the Portuguese Frequency Dictionary get 12 months free.
- Open the app and tap the gear icon to open Settings.
- Tap Redeem a code (you’ll also find “Have a code? Redeem it” on the unlock screen).
- Type the code and confirm with your Apple ID. All 1,000 words unlock straight away.
You can also redeem it in the App Store app: tap your profile picture › Redeem Gift Card or Code. Each code works once. After the free period the subscription renews at the normal price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
How do I restore my purchase on a new iPhone?
Make sure you’re signed in to the App Store with the same Apple ID you subscribed with, then open the app › gear icon › Restore purchases. There’s no account to log in to — your subscription belongs to your Apple ID.
How do I cancel or manage my subscription?
On your iPhone open the Settings app › your name › Subscriptions › Frequency. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. Words 1–100 stay free either way, and your progress is kept.
How do I reset my progress?
In the app tap the gear icon › Reset all progress and confirm twice. This erases every word you’ve learned, your review schedule and your streak, on your iPhone and Apple Watch. It can’t be undone. It doesn’t affect your subscription.

How do I turn sound on or off?
Sound is off until you turn it on. Gear icon › Say new words out loud plays each new word automatically; you can also set the speed and tap Test voice. Tap the round red speaker on any card to hear that word, even with auto-play off.
No sound? Check your volume, and that a European Portuguese voice is installed: iPhone Settings › Accessibility › Spoken Content › Voices › Portuguese (Portugal).
How does Apple Watch sync work?
The watch shows your review cards from the iPhone. Learn new words on the iPhone first — they appear on the watch once they’re due for review.
- Your ratings on the watch are saved immediately, even without your iPhone nearby.
- They sync back the next time the watch can reach the iPhone. “Ratings waiting to sync” means they’re queued, not lost.
- If the watch looks out of date, open the app on your iPhone with the watch nearby and Bluetooth on.
What does “recognise 77% of the words people say” mean?
We counted 624 million words of film and TV dialogue from Portugal. The 1,000 most frequent words account for 77.4% of all the words spoken (counting every repeat); the top 100 cover 54.7% and the top 10 cover 28.1%. Your badge adds up the share of the words you’ve learned. Recognising words isn’t the same as understanding every sentence, but it’s the biggest head start you can get.
